Seen Enough Tobacco Presentation at Sidney Library
Learn more about tobacco issues and ways to create healthier communities by attending the Seen Enough Tobacco public presentation at the Sidney Memorial Public Library at 8 River Street on Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. Linda Wegner, Program Director of Advancing Tobacco Free Communities in Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties (ATFC-DOS), will highlight ways of de-normalizing tobacco and decreasing its use including reducing youth and adult exposure to tobacco marketing and increasing the availability of tobacco-free outdoor shared environments.
Mr. Glen E. (Whit) Whitaker, Jr. and his wife Rosemary currently of Franklin will join Ms. Wegner to share some of their personal experiences with tobacco use to bring a real face to the statistics. Fire destroyed the former Whitaker and Son Inc. Buick Chevrolet dealership building on Main Street in the village of Sidney on August 30, 2007. Two area teens smoking cigars accidentally started the blaze.
ATFC-DOS educates the community and decision-makers, mobilizes community members around the problems that tobacco addiction causes in local communities, and helps decision makers understand the types of choices that they have to address these problems. The New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Tobacco Control provides grant funds to the Research Foundation of SUNY at SUNY Cobleskill to implement the program in the three-county area. There are twenty-five ATFC organizations covering every county in New York State.
